Donation Policy

Updated: 3/29/2026

Hemet Valley Art Association, Inc. (HVAA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the visual arts, artists, and student programs in the Hemet Valley. This Donation and Gift Policy explain how we receive and manage contributions to honor donor intent and support our mission.

1. Types of Gifts We Accept

HVAA generally accepts the following types of charitable contributions, subject to this policy and board discretion:

  • Monetary gifts, including cash, checks, and electronic payments

  • Online donations made through our authorized payment platforms

  • Event-related contributions, such as ticket purchases and paddle-raise gifts

  • In‑kind donations of goods or services that support gallery operations, events, classes, or student programs (for example, auction items, gift baskets, supplies, or printing services)

HVAA may decline a gift that is inconsistent with our mission, is too difficult or costly to administer, or could expose the organization to legal, financial, or reputational risk.

2. Designated and General Gifts

Unless a donor clearly designates a specific purpose, all donations are considered unrestricted and are applied to HVAA’s general fund. The general fund helps support gallery operations, exhibitions, classes and workshops, events, and student programs.

Donors may request that their gifts support a particular area of our work, such as youth and student programs or a specific event. HVAA will make reasonable efforts to honor these designations, provided they align with our mission and current programs. If a designated purpose is fully funded, no longer in place, or impracticable, HVAA may redirect the gift to a closely related purpose or to the general fund.

3. Membership Payments vs. Charitable Contributions

If you intended to purchase or renew a membership but your payment was processed as a general or restricted contribution, please contact us as soon as possible. In those cases, we will refund the original contribution and ask you to submit a new payment using the appropriate membership level so that your benefits and records are accurate.

4. Receipts and Acknowledgment

HVAA provides a receipt or written acknowledgment for monetary donations and other contributions as appropriate. Receipts generally include the date, amount (or a description of the non‑cash gift), and a statement that no goods or services were received in return, if applicable.

Donors should consult their own tax advisors regarding the deductibility of contributions. HVAA does not provide legal, tax, or financial advice.

5. In‑Kind Gifts and Valuation

For in‑kind donations, such as artwork, auction items, supplies, or services, HVAA will provide a description of the item or service received. Donors are responsible for determining the fair market value of their in‑kind contributions for tax purposes. HVAA does not assign or confirm dollar values for non‑cash gifts.

HVAA reserves the right to use, display, sell, or otherwise dispose of in‑kind gifts in the manner that best supports our mission and current needs.

6. Refunds and Adjustments

In general, charitable contributions are not refundable. On rare occasions, a refund or adjustment may be considered for processing errors, duplicate transactions, or similar issues. Requests must be made within a reasonable time and will be reviewed by HVAA leadership.

Ticket purchases, class or workshop fees, and other program payments may be subject to separate event or registration policies.

7. Recognition and Anonymity

HVAA may recognize donors in publications, signage, event materials, or other forms of acknowledgment, in keeping with our gratitude practices and any sponsor agreements in place. Donors who wish to remain anonymous may indicate this preference at the time of the gift, and HVAA will honor reasonable requests for anonymity whenever possible.

8. Changes to This Policy

HVAA may update this Donation Policy from time to time. The most current version will be posted on our website or otherwise made available upon request.
