Our Leadership & Volunteers

Hemet Valley Art Association is guided by a volunteer board, officers, and committee chairs who donate their time and expertise to keep the gallery, programs, and events running for our community. These leaders help steward HVAA’s mission, support artists and students, and ensure that the gallery remains a welcoming art space in Historic Downtown Hemet.

Positions and Volunteer Opportunities.

Vice President (2027)

Role:
The Vice President will mentor with the current President and move up as President in 2028.

Mentor:
Lynn Throckmorton, current President

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of HVAA’s elected and appointed board members’ areas of responsibility

  • Ability to follow HVAA By-Laws, Gallery Rules and Procedures, and all State and Federal laws

  • Willingness to create a new role based on your background and goals for the gallery

  • Membership on the Executive Board

  • Authorized to sign checks

Gallery Director (2027)

Role:
The Gallery Director leads the teams currently in place to support the gallery. Responsibilities include all areas of the gallery, from panel rental to securing judges for the Change of Painting each month. This person serves on the Executive Board and wears many hats.

Mentor:
Art Majerus, current Gallery Director

Qualifications:

  • Quick to deal with multiple issues

  • Ability to manage many different tasks

  • Membership on the Executive Board

Newsletter Editor (2027)

Role:
The Newsletter Editor publishes a monthly newsletter covering gallery events (past, current, and future).

Mentor:
Sheryl Cooley, current Newsletter Editor

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of publishing software

  • Photography skills

  • Understanding of gallery events

Assistant Treasurer (2027)

Role:
The Assistant Treasurer supports Anna Ives, Treasurer and Executive Board Member, and will take on duties to assist in learning how financial records are kept at the gallery.

Mentor:
Anna Ives, Treasurer

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of financial software

  • Understanding of taxes and bank reconciliation

  • Ability to issue receipts for all gallery sales

  • Ability to make bank deposits

  • Commitment to keeping the gallery’s financials legal and documented per State and Federal laws

Photographer (2027)

Role:
Julie Jernegan, longtime expert and past “Member of the Year,” is stepping down after many years as our resident gallery photographer. The Official Gallery Photographer:

  • Is on the spot wherever and whenever needed, on short notice

  • Works as part of the gallery photography team, newsletter team, and website team

  • Becomes the “camera” for the gallery at local events, in-house events, and City events

Qualifications:

  • Social person with a camera

  • Available on short notice

  • Willing to join the photography, newsletter, and website teams

3-Year Elected Board Member (2027)

Role:
The duties of this board member are determined by the President and the elected board. This position is open for responsibilities based on gallery needs. It is also a great training spot for what lies ahead in our gallery.

  • No formal requirements

  • Desire to be part of the gallery’s future
