My painting style can best be described as representational, executed in a somewhat impressionist manner. I enjoy watercolor painting for its spontaneity and the quality of freshness it exudes. Painting in oil offers me the ability to capture the feeling of light and depth.
Painting En Plain Air has given me an appreciation for the beauty and uniqueness of the natural world. Over the years I have had the privilege of painting beautiful public and private gardens, inspiring coastal localities, historic structures, and places forgotten or left to the elements. I am inspired by the use of color in portraying the luminous quality of light in the landscape, and my hope is for the viewer to feel a personal connection with the subject portrayed.
Creating a still life painting in the studio is a quiet and thoughtful way of working. Many of the objects in my still life paintings bring back memories from the past. They are treasured keepsakes, and include items I have collected, gifts from family members and friends, and plants from my garden. Often choosing and composing items that work together for a compatible and cohesive composition can be challenging.
However, it is a fulfilling experience.
The visual arts are for me a lifelong pursuit and joyful endeavor. I am delighted to have the opportunity to express my artistic voice, and share my visions with Hemet Valley Art Association.
