Our Artists Celebrate Día de los Muertos in Banning

Art has a wonderful way of bringing communities together, and this year's Día de los Muertos Art Competition and Exhibition at the Art & Heritage Museum in Banning was a beautiful example.

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, artists, families, and community members gathered for the Artists' Reception and Award Ceremony during the Downtown Banning Art Walk. The Hemet Valley Art Association (HVAA) was proud to have several gallery members participating in this celebration of art, culture, and remembrance.

Celebrating Our HVAA Artists

Congratulations to HVAA member Frankie Sarenana, who received an award in the Charcoal Drawing category! A photograph from the event captures Frankie celebrating alongside his two sons, making the recognition even more meaningful.

HVAA Vice President Briana Derum participated with her artwork Thoughtful Heart, while Roxanne Kauhaahaa-Linstrom exhibited her piece, Rosanna. We also recognize Patti Greco for her participation.

Other gallery members participating included Frankie's son, Lynn, Bob, Justin, and Junior. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces sharing their artistic talents beyond our gallery walls.

Connecting Our Art Communities

Chuck McCracken, an HVAA member, also serves as President of the Cultural Alliance of the Pass, which funds and operates the Banning Art Gallery, also known as the Art & Heritage Museum.

Chuck is a wonderful ambassador for our regional arts community, sharing his talents as a watercolor instructor at the Banning Art Gallery while strengthening connections between neighboring art organizations.

The reception featured refreshments, music, Spanish dancers, and artwork celebrating Día de los Muertos. Local artist Joe Severino served as guest judge, lending his expertise to a competition filled with creativity and diverse artistic interpretations.

The adult exhibition and winning artwork will remain on display through November 14, 2026.

Congratulations to Our Artists!

We appreciate the Cultural Alliance of the Pass, the Art & Heritage Museum, and everyone who helped make this celebration possible.

Most importantly, congratulations to Frankie on his award and to all our participating HVAA artists. We're always proud to celebrate our members sharing their creativity throughout the region.
