A Summer Open House Filled with Art, Community, and Celebration
The Hemet Valley Art Association’s Summer Open House on Saturday, July 11, was an evening filled with art, conversation, friendship, and community spirit. Guests gathered at our Gallery to celebrate highlighted artist Kathy Schmitt, explore the gallery, and enjoy a welcoming summer reception commemorating our nation’s 250th birthday.
Kathy’s vibrant paintings provided a beautiful centerpiece for the evening. Her expressive brushwork, richly layered color, and appreciation for both the natural and built world invited visitors to slow down, look closely, and experience each piece in a personal way. Throughout the reception, guests enjoyed meeting Kathy, discussing her work, and discovering the wide variety of artwork created by HVAA members.
The Open House welcomed longtime supporters, first-time visitors, local leaders, artists, families, and neighbors. We were honored to have Hemet Mayor Linda Krupa join us, along with Pia Ray from the office of California State Assemblymember Dr. Corey Jackson. Their presence helped make an already memorable evening even more special.
The event was an overwhelming success, but evenings like this do not happen because of one person. They are made possible by members who step forward, work together, and contribute wherever they are needed.
Special thanks go to Special Events Coordinator Linda Baranek and her team for organizing the reception. Patti Greco worked tirelessly to prepare and set up the gallery, while Curtis Ward continued assisting visitors, welcoming new members, and processing artwork sales. Laurence Bellocq and others stayed afterward to help clean up, while Sheryl Cooley and Jose Pacheco captured photographs throughout the evening. Art Majerus our Gallery Director, spent time welcoming and visiting with guests, helping create the friendly atmosphere that defines HVAA events.
HVAA’s President Lynn Throckmorton shared, “The magic of events like this is not about any one person, but the combined efforts of our members who step up to help.” This Open House was a perfect example of that teamwork in action.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended, volunteered, purchased artwork, became a member, brought food, helped behind the scenes, or simply spent part of their evening celebrating local art with us. Your participation supports our non-profit gallery, our artists, and our continued efforts to make creativity accessible throughout the Hemet community.
Thank you for making the Summer Open House an evening to remember. It truly was magic.
