Pamela Schanuel: April’s 2026 Featured Artist

Pamela Flinn Schanuel is an abstract painter specializing in works that seek to express complex, ineffable emotions through shape and color, following in the traditions of abstract impressionism, abstract expressionism, and contemporary gestural abstraction. In contrast to other artists within the genre, like Francine Tint, Pamela’s art retains an identity grounded in nature, with works calling to mind sunsets, the sea, and the high desert of California.

Pamela was born in the Hemet area, although she has spent much of her life away from it, and holds a Bachelors degree, majoring in biology and minoring in art, from the University of Santa Cruz. She returned to the valley a few years ago, only to face Covid and cancer. As a result, she has only recently become actively involved in HVAA.
